He has been the recipient of seven state awards and one national award, for the excellence in selection and realization of docuprojects.  He is into his first commercial venture in feature film production with Arunam.

This realistic film teams up Manoj K. Jayan and Geethu Mohandas for the first time in the lead. They live in the roles of a middle aged couple in Achuthan and Seetha, a couple who has always lived in and with the party ideals. The film which is based on the Kumkumam Award winning novel Arangozhiyunna Achuthan by Sudhakaran Ramanthali will be a venture of difference.

The film tells the story of trials on Achuthan by the society who always stand by the opinions of the majority. Achuthan is a factory worker, a trade union leader and a sworn communist who consider the Commitment to the party as his utmost priority over even his family. He and his wife Seetha are also ardent lovers of music.

Munisamy who hails from Tamil Nadu is a co-worker 0f Achuthan in the same factory. He lives with his wife Sarasamma, daughter Valli and son Selvan. On his retirement, Munisamy pays the entire amount he gets as benefits to the Party Secretary as bribe to get his son a job.

However, Muniswamy's distress grows over and over as his son is denied a promised job which is his long cherished dream. Munisamy who leaves home one day does not return and the burden of taking care of Munisamy's family falls on Achuthan who consider Munisamy's children as his own.

Achuthan, an honest party worker and an idealist takes up the issue of corruption within the party in party forums which invites unwanted resistance within the party.

This leads Achuthan being ostracized by the party. People against him even hint that he has an illicit relationship with Munisamy's daughter.

Disillusioned of his idealistic ways and reality, Achuthan is now left with a position to prove everything all by himself.

Arunam tells the story of the trials and tribulations that a person who is an out and out idealist has to face in life.
