Former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is in the news for promptly vacating the official residence now that he is no more a Minister. The BJP leader has also given up other perks, including security cover. He is going to move to his personal house in South Delhi.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court is of the view that any Member of Parliament should vacate his or her official residence within a month of the dissolution of the old Lok Sabha. Although Jaitley is a Rajya Sabha MP (Rajya Sabha is a permanent House with no dissolution), he is following suit as he is not a Minister.
"Very few who would do this. @arunjaitley is vacating the government bungalow he was allotted as Finance Minister. He has given up his official perks and reduced his security cover. His personal staff have been told to settle all bills," says Kanchan Gupta, a columnist.
