An argument over their favourite cricketers turned deadly for two men in Tamil Nadu, as one of them, who is supposedly a fan of Indian player Virat Kohli allegedly killed his friend after a drunken brawl over who is the better cricketer between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The accused and the victim, identified as Dharmaraj and Vignesh, respectively, apparently got into a heated argument while discussing cricket over drinks near SIDCO Industrial Estate. The altercation got physical when Dharmaraj attacked Vignesh with a bottle and a cricket bat, leading to the death of the latter. “During the course of their debate, Vignesh had allegedly mocked RCB and Virat Kohli,” the police was quoted as saying by a news agency.
“Vignesh had the habit of body shaming Dharmaraj, who was a stammerer. On that day he had made some remarks comparing the RCB team to the speaking difficulty of Dharmaraj. This infuriated Dharmaraj who attacked Vignesh with a bottle and later hit him with a cricket bat on the head. Dharmaraj soon fled the spot,” the police reportedly added.
A case was registered against the accused, who was later arrested while the deceased man’s body was sent to a government hospital in Ariyalur for an autopsy. Meanwhile, #ArrestKohli has been trending on Twitter for the past couple of days, which was slammed by cricket viewers who said it was absurd to blame the cricketer for no good reason.
