Arnold Schwarzenegger, former California governor and Hollywood star, faced a delay at Munich Airport on Wednesday after failing to declare a luxury watch at customs. German officials confirmed the incident and opened criminal proceedings, potentially adding charges to the initial tax issue.

The 76-year-old reportedly spent up to three hours detained upon arrival from Los Angeles. The custom-made Audemars Piguet watch, valued at around £20,000, was intended for auction at a climate change fundraiser in Austria.

Travelers crossing into the EU must declare items exceeding €300, with taxes levied based on the declared value. Whether Schwarzenegger faced additional penalties beyond taxes for non-declaration remains unclear.

Reports vary on the exact amount paid, ranging from €9,000 to €35,000. The actor initially offered credit card payment but was reportedly redirected to withdraw cash, requiring a short escort to a bank.

Schwarzenegger seemed unimpressed by the ordeal, commenting to Bild newspaper, "That's the problem Germany is suffering from. They can't see the forest for the trees."

Officials reportedly recognized the actor and requested a random inspection, leading to the discovery of the undeclared watch.
