Are the days of the EPS-OPS regime in the State getting numbered?

It is reported from the national capital that the days of the EPS-OPS led AIADMK regime in Tamil Nadu are being numbered as the Govt. may not last for more than three weeks’ time from now. The impending Court decision on disqualification of MLAs might spell doom for the ruling party around the same time, it is pointed out.
AIADMK cadres and people of the State are gearing up to observe an emotional first death anniversary of former chief-minister ‘Puratchithalaivi’ and ‘Amma’ Jayalalithaa on 05th December. It now appears that the party which was so carefully nurtured by the late leader for more than three decades may disintegrate soon.
The High Court of Madras is interrogating cases of disqualification by Speaker Dhanapal of 18 MLAs belonging to the Dinakaran faction of the AIADMK for going against the party whip. It also has reserved its decision on another petition seeking to disqualify O. Panneerselvam and a few other MLAs for the same ‘offence’ committed when OPS and EPS were heading different factions in February this year.
If the High Court quashes Speaker’s disqualification of 18 MLAs, it would create fresh trouble for the present regime as the MLAs would form a separate faction in the Assembly. If it upholds the disqualification process, the same might apply to OPS and his few MLAs who voted against the party whip’s decision while determining the floor strength of the then EPS-led regime in February.
Governor Purohit, who has been operating in a separate zone by intervening in the administrative issues, may then direct the EPS-OPS combine to prove its majority on the floor of the Assembly. Either the Govt. might fall on its own weight of the Governor might recommend dissolution/suspension of the Assembly for the time being, it is predicted by political observers.
