A recent media report said that giants such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, HCL and Tech Mahindra, put together, are going to lay off 30 lakh IT employees in the coming year. The news has been widely shared on social media, causing much concern in job-seekers and even software engineers.

Turns out that the news is misleading. TV Mohandas Pai, a board member at Infosys, has described the report as idiotic. He added that Nasscom has rubbished the report with data.
A fact-check done by Nasscom reveals that the report is fictional. "The media reports on 3 million job losses in the IT-BPO sector by 2022 are based on misleading data published in a global report and are totally false. The report is full of factual inaccuracies," the apex body of the IT-BPM industry said.
Far from job losses, the IT sector is set to add new numbers. Union Minister RS Prasad quoted a news report as saying that the Indian IT sector continues to be a net hirer of skilled talent, and the top 5 Indian IT companies are planning to add over 96,000 employees in 2021-22. "The IT industry is upskilling more and more employees in digital skills," he added.
