Good melodies

Joshua Sridhar, the man who shot to fame with his catchy melodies in Kadhal, is back with Aran, a movie starring big stars like Mohanlal, Gopika, Jeeva among others.

Produced by R B Choudhary, this bi-lingual (in Malayalmm and Tamil), has the right mix of soft and peppy numbers, quite typical of Joshua.

The album has five numbers, which are certainly attractive.

Joshua deserves a pat for coming up with soft melodious numbers, which have  become a rarity these days. A Kashmiri song rendered by Manicka Vinayakam is another highlight of the movie.

Mugilae (Srinivas)

A lilting melody. A romantic song with Sreenivas at his best. The song focuses on a youth serving the army in the border. He sings in the memory of his lover. Joshua has used soft instruments but has succeeded in giving a western touch to the song. Srinivas shows why he is one of the best in the business.

Pooncholai (Karthick, Asha Menon)

Again a soft number. Both Karthik and Asha Menon begin on a slow note and the song slowly gains momentum. Joshua has used flutes effectively. The slow beats accompanying the song all through is also very catchy. One for the melody lovers

Thottal Poo (Anushka)

A peppy number with foot-tapping beats. It is supposedly an item-number in the movie. Unfortunately the song has instruments overtaking the lyrics at many places. Anushka's energy level is high. However had Joshua had gone slow on the orchestration, the song could have been more interesting to listen.

Kashmiri song (Manicka Vinayakam)

Manicka Vinayakam with his strong voice is a right choice to sing such numbers. Though inspired by Kashmiri folk numbers, this song is soft and melodious. The lyrics are very catchy for it is a Kashmiri youth singing for peace in his land. Manickam gives all that he has.

Bit song (Srinivas)

A small piece which resembles Thamizha Thamizha in Roja. It is all about the triumph of victory over evil. Srinivas is in his elements in this.

All told, it makes for interesting hearing.
