Music maestro AR Rahman’s mother Kareema Begum died last year on 28th December due to age-related ailments. Since yesterday marks the first death anniversary of Kareema Begum Rahman posted a video on his Instagram page and paid tribute to his mother.
Rahman, who was born Dileep, was single-handedly raised by his mother (Kasthuri Sekhar) after his father and music composer RO Sekhar died when Rahman was only 9 years old. The Oscar and Grammy award-winning music composer was extremely close to his mother and in many previous interviews, he has disclosed that it was his mother who had realised his flair in music and had nurtured it.
Rahman, who started his film music journey with Mani Ratnam's "Roja" (1992) and went on to become a globally acclaimed artiste in the coming decade with an Academy Award, Grammy, BAFTA and Golden Globe wins, has always credited his mother for being constant support as well as an inspiration throughout his musical journey.
During the 81st Academy Awards ceremony Rahman, after winning the Oscars for his work on "Slumdog Millionaire", paid tribute to his mother. "There is a Hindi dialogue, mere paas ma hai, which means 'I have nothing but I have a mother'. So my mother is here, her blessings are there with me. I'm grateful for her to have come all the way," he had said.
The video which also the photo of his mother towards the end managed to get more than one million views within few hours. Many of his fans are paying tribute to his mother in the comments section.
