Here's how A.R. Rahman deals with people copying his music

A.R. Rahman is undeniably the best music composer that Indian Cinema has seen and his talent is simply unmatched. He remains the only Indian composer to bag an Academy Award for his music but that isn't his greatest achievement. Rahman has given several timeless and soulful tunes to the cinema, some of which include 'Urvasi Urvasi', 'Jai Ho', 'Masakali', 'Muqabla'. Now just like any other masterpiece, Rahman's work has also been copied and plagiarized a lot.
Rahman being a true artist, doesn't care too much about the culprits as he wishes to focus his energy on making music instead of holding people accountable. He said, People know that now, you know whether it is beat or sound, there are such smart people out there and they want to bring you down. In that era, they thought they can get away with it but it was exclusively shot. In a way, it was flattering for me because copying is definitely flattery. At the same time, I did not want to waste my time going behind people for that because there were other people to take care of that stuff.
He concluded by saying, My goal was always to refine myself and go forward and forward and never let any negative things go into my mind whether it is greed or anything. There is so much to do in music that don’t waste your time in hatred, greed, and jealousy. You can go march and just make another tune, make another progression, make another rhythm or story. That is my mantra.
