On the occasion of the 10-year celebration of Slumdog Millionaire’s Oscar wins, including the award for Best Original Score by A.R. Rahman, his daughter Khatija Rahman made an emotional speech praising her father for not just being a musical legend, but for being the humble human being and amazing father that he is, and for the values he taught his three children.
“Though the world knows you for your music and the award that you won, I have immense love and respect for you because of the values you taught us (his children). Your humility matters the most for me. Not an atom of your character has changed ever since you won the Oscar, nothing has changed in you in the last 10 years except the time you spend with us has reduced. I think you are making it up now by taking us on short trips! I am deeply inspired by your generosity. There are a lot of things (social work) that you do and people, even I do not get to know about it. This is something that I value the most about my father,” Khatija Rahman said at the event.
The event was attended by the entire music team, including Jai Ho’s lyricist Gulzar, who shared the Oscar award for Best Original Song with A.R. Rahman, singers Sukhwinder Singh, Ila Arun, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Vijay Prakash, and actor Anil Kapoor. The celebration was hosted at the Dharavi slum area in Mumbai.
