Earlier this week, petitions were filed in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh seeking the suspension of the recent Governor's Gazette pertaining to three capitals. This came just days after the Governor of the State assented to the concerned Bills. One of the petitions came from a group of farmers belonging to a capital conservation committee.
The news is that, on Tuesday, the High Court stayed the Gazette and said that status quo will be maintained till August 14. The court opined that no progress can be made on the issue of decentralization of capitals until the petitions are pending to be disposed of.
It directed the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government to file its counter with the court.
The next hearing will take place on August 14.
