As per data put out by a think-tank, Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the best State in terms of the number of government-run labs testing Covid-19 in the State.

"AP has got the highest number of government-run labs testing for #COVID19. From 0 labs in mid-March to 52 now," the Health Department said on Saturday.

There are 4 private labs eligible to test for coronavirus. Compared to States like Karnakata, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, private labs eligible to do testing are far lesser in number in AP. But given that the caseload is manageable, the number shouldn't be a worry.

On Friday evening, the Jaganmohan Reddy government permitted ICMR-approved private labs to conduct Covid-19 tests for a predetermined price. They can't charge more than Rs 2,900 for individuals, while charging not more than Rs 2,400 for samples that are referred to by the government.
