AP govt: Transport of liquor from other States without excise duty is illegal

The YS Jaganmohan Reddy government has taken a decisive move towards prohibiting the transport of liquor from other States into Andhra Pradesh except by way of payment of excise duty.

The aim of the government is to plug the loss of revenue. So far, it has been found that the transport of liquor by individuals has been carried out legally from other States. Individuals, as per the new rule, can no longer possess even three bottles of liquor each without a permit. The government wants to earn revenue by way of duty, fees, etc.

It has been alleged by media and sections of civil society that individuals have been harassed for even legally transporting liquor into AP. As a result, smuggling from neighboring States has reportedly gone up by 75%.
