AP govt sanctions Rs 17 lakh for Kathi Maheshs treatment

On June 26, Kathi Mahesh met with a dangerous road accident in which he suffered grievous facial injuries. He was treated at a private hospital in Nellore soon after the accident. The film critic-cum-activist has since been shifted to a private hospital in Chennai for further treatment.

On Friday, the Andhra Pradesh government wrote to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai to render treatment to Kathi Mahesh at its expense. A total of Rs 17 lakh has been promised to the hospital towards the treatment.

A letter was sent by an official from the Chief Minister's Office, assuring that Mahesh's treatment will be covered by funds from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

It's one of the rarest occasions when a large sum has been assured by the government towards the treatment of a film journalist. A lot of social media users, especially those who see Mahesh as a biased political activist who unfairly targeted the Jana Sena Party and Pawan Kalyan in the past, have questioned the move. A Twitter user said that the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government has brazened it out by sanctioning a very high figure from the taxpayers' money.
