AP assembly seeks SC status for Christian converts

Converts don't get quota in general. However, the Andhra Pradesh assembly has unanimously passed a resolution making an appeal to extend reservations to converted Christians, who were previously regarded as SCs before they converted.
"AP assembly has passed a unanimous resolution appealing to central govt to consider members of the SC community, who converted to Christianity, as belonging to their original caste only and apply reservations accordingly," a news agency reported.
The ball is now in the Centre's court. Months before the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, this potentially winsome resolution was introduced by Chandrababu Naidu. The BJP MLAs too supported the passing of the resolution in the Assembly.
