The just-released trailer of 'Bhaagamathie' throws up familiar tropes in abundance: the lofty project destroyed by the villains, the love affair between two beautiful souls (Anushka and Unni Mukundan), the haunted place where even devils will fear to tread, the police-criminal-politician nexus, the village backdrop, so on and so forth.

For the most part, Anushka's character comes off as a troubled, petrified and stupefied soul.  But the jolt comes towards the end when she asserts herself and dares the deviants to enter the forte of Bhaagamathie.

The lead character's self-crucifixion in the teaser was a terrifying moment.  In comparison, the trailer is rather subdued in effect barring the ending.

Thaman's background music is appropriately urgent.  Madhi’s cinematography and Ravinder's artwork seem to be majestic. The suspenseful and thriller has the right team going for it.

Asha Sharath, Murali Sharma, Dhanraj, Prabhas Srinu, Vidyullekha Raman, Deva Darshan, Talaivasal Vijay, Ajay Ghosh, Madhu Nandan and others are a part of the cast.  Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is the editor.

A Telugu-Tamil bilingual, it will release in Malayalam, too, on January 26.
