Celebrated filmmaker/actor Anurag Kashyap bid goodbye to Twitter, a platform he actively used to promote his movies as well as to voice out his political opinions. The filmmaker has been at the receiving end of trolls and criticism from BJP supporters for a long time now.
Recently, Anurag Kashyap received a death threat via Twitter from one of them and he brought it to the attention of the Mumbai police, who took immediate action against the individual. Similarly, after the BJP won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, a man had threatened to rape Anurag's daughter in case he failed to stop criticizing Modi. The actor had filed a police complaint against that person as well. Unable to bear the relentless threats for using the platform to merely communicate his thoughts on certain subjects, Anurag announced that he was quitting Twitter for good.
"When your parents start to get calls and your daughter gets online threats you know that no one wants to talk. There isn’t going to be reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new India & hope you all thrive," his last tweet read. "Wish you all the happiness and success. This would be my last tweet as I leave twitter. When I won't be allowed to speak my mind without fear then I would rather not speak at all. Goodbye," he further added.
