After 'Majnu' last year, Anu Emmanuel has become one of the most sought-after actresses. She made news big-time when Trivikram Srinivas chose her as the heroine of Pawan Kalyan himself. She followed it up with another stellar project: 'Na Peru Surya' opposite Allu Arjun.
This November, the actress braces up for the release of 'Oxygen'. This family-action entertainer, starring Gopichand in the lead role, is directed by AM Jyothikrishna. In this interview, she talks about her role in the movie, what is her first priority, and more.
What is your role in the movie? How did 'Oxygen' happen to you in the first place?
Actually, 'Oxygen' was my first Telugu film. I am playing a doctor in this film. Even as I was doing this one, I was offered 'Majnu', which happened to release first.
I had done a Malayalam film titled 'Action Hero Biju'. The director (AM Jyothi Krishna), who had watched it, saw my profile and contacted me. I was in the US back then. I am very glad to have got to act opposite Gopichand.
You are now a multi-lingual actress. Where does Tollywood feature in your priority list?
I have been getting quite many good roles in Telugu. I like the work environment and the films I am getting here. As of now, my first priority is Tollywood.
I have done a Tamil movie. Since I have entered films through Mollywood, I would like to do films there as well.
Are you open for glamour?
As an actress, I want to do all kind of roles. As such I am ready to play glamorous roles. But I stay away from vulgarity.
Tell us about your superstar co-stars. How is it working with them?
I am glad to be working with big stars in Telugu. Working with Pawan Kalyan garu has been a great experience. So also working with Bunny (she is paired up with Allu Arjun in 'Na Peru Surya'). I have been roped in to play Naga Chaitanya's heroine in Maruthi's film.
How comfortable are you doing films in an alien language, you being a Malayali?
When I first started doing Telugu cinema, I was apprehensive as I didn't know the language. But Jyothikrishna garu has treated me like a child. He gave me the fullest cooperation.
How are you finding Hyderabad and who are your best buddies here?
I am these days living in Hyderabad. I am staying in a flat. I am a friendly person with one and all. I don't have any best friends as such.
Newbies from other languages are these days dubbing for themselves. When are you starting to dub for yourself?
Yes, I do want to dub for myself in Telugu. I have to see if I can start doing it with Pawan Kalyan garu's film.
