For the first time in weeks, a Union Minister has opened up on an anti-COVID vaccine. Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has said that, if everything goes well, India can expect a vaccine by the end of 2020.
"Three Covid-19 vaccine candidates are in the invention process. One of them has entered the third phase of the pre-clinical human trial," the Minister has been quoted as saying.
The one in the third phase (which the Minister hasn't named) has been claimed to have started yielding encouraging results in the initial phases of its trial.
Who is trying to make the three vaccines in India?
Oxford University, the Serum Institute of India (SII) and Astra Zeneca are into developing a candidate named ChAdOx1.
Bharat Biotech and ICMR are into developing Covaxin. This is the vaccine that is most likely to succeed.
ZycovD is into developing Zydus Cadila.
