Another Rai, another beauty queen

After host of Mumbai girls, it's the turn of a Belgaum girl.

Lakshmi Rai, a beauty from deep interior Karnataka is in Kollywood to try her luck in Tamil films.

A Miss Belgaum pageant winner, Lakshmi has been a popular face in many commercials.

She acted in a short film Valmiki which R V Udhayakumar happened to see.

He was impressed with what he saw, and the rest, as they say, is potential history.

Udhayakumar has assigned Lakshmi Rai the lead role in his movie Karka Kasadara.

Vijay's cousin Vikranth makes his debut as hero in the movie.

Even before her first movie is released, Lakshmi Rai has three movies including Kurukezhuthu and Kalakal in her hand.

Though from the xenophobic Karnataka film industry, Lakshmi Rai is full of praise for the Tamil filmdom. "Film technicians are hardworking and dedicated here and I consider myself fortunate to be part of such working environment", Lakshmi Rai says.

Another Rai, another beauty queen. But it remains to be seen whether this Rai rises to that level of that more illustrious Rai.
