Director Maniratnam had last directed the multistarrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam which was a successful venture, and next, the director has started his dream movie Ponniyin Selvan which is based on the epic novel of the same name written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy.

After several months of pre-production, the shooting of this big budget movie started yesterday, and the team will be shooting in forests of Thailand. Actors Karthi and Jayam Ravi will be a part of the schedule and it has been said that Chiyaan Vikram will join shoot in 2020.

Now it has been revealed that, actor Vikram Prabhu is also a part of Ponniyin Selvan and that he will be playing an important role. It has to be noted that Vikram Prabhu's father Prabhu has worked with Mani Ratnam in Agni Natchathiram, Anjali and Ravanan.
