Recently, film producer Gopi complained against Tamil actor Vemal in Chennai Police alleging that he had defrauded him of Rs 5 crores. Now, another producer has filed a case against actor Vemal for allegedly defrauding him of Rs 1.50 crores.
Producer Singaravelan filed a complaint at the Chennai commissioner's office today (22-04-22) at 11 am demanding action against Vemal for making false allegations against him and requesting the officials to get back his money from the actor. He then handed over a copy of the complaint to the reporters. Singara Velan's complaint read:
"Hello. I started a film distribution company called "Marina Pictures" and have distributed some films including Superstar Rajinikanth starrer "Linga" and Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi starrer "Purambokku". In this situation, actor Vemal met me in 2016 to get some explanations about the film distribution. It was when I developed a close friendship with him.
At the time, all his films including "Indru Netru", "Ishtam", "Pulivaal", "Jannal Oram", "Oru Oorula Rendu Raja", "Kaaval", "Anjala" and "Mapla Singam" were a box office failure and a huge loss to the producers. He was frustrated that his market was down and producers did not want to make films with Vemal then. The actor said that he was going to finish producing the half-abandoned film "Mannar Vagaiyara'' started by a producer Ganesan from Tiruppur and asked for financial help for that.
I also introduced my friend Gopi and arranged a loan of Rs 5 crores for him. In this situation, I was invited as a guest to actor Vemal's birthday party held on 30.08.2017 at Shikaram Mini Hall in Saligramam. He announced on stage that he was going to produce the movie "Kalavani-2" at the event. Sargunam, the director of Kalavani, was with him at that time.
After that Vemal met me on October 13, 2017, and told me to buy the entire distribution rights of "Kalavani-2" and assured me that he will finish the project in a short time. I signed the agreement on October 14 and paid an advance of Rs 1.5 crore. But they did not start the production work of "Kalavani-2" with the money I paid. Then, they said that director Sargunam is going to produce 'Kalavani 2' and Vemal promised me that he will return my advance amount with his salary before the release of the film. I kept quiet believing that.
I never got the advance amount back from Vemal when the release date of the 'Kalavani 2' movie was announced. So, I obtained a restraining order in the Chennai High Court against the release of "Kalavani-2" through my production manager Kamaran. Following that, the producer of the film Sargunam lodged a complaint against me with the Chennai Police Commissioner. When I showed the documents to the officers investigating the complaint and explained that I had the distribution rights of Kalavani 2, the police realised its authenticity and called actor Vemal to come for investigation immediately.
Vemal immediately contacted a political biggie and asked him to settle down the problem by a peace pact. On 13.05.2019, we both agreed to a compromise and signed an agreement in which he agreed to settle the money with me soon and asked to help with the release of the film. The news was published in the newspapers of the day with a photo. Vemal didn't return the money even after 2 years and that's when I registered a complaint with the Tamil Film Producers Council. Then, the TFPC inquired and asked the actor to repay my Rs 1.5 crores loan including the interest. Following that, Vemal gave a cheque of Rs 2.7 crores.
When I paid it to the bank, the cheque bounced out of cash. Vimal has been charged with cheque fraud in the Saidapet court and the case is pending. In order to escape from this case to defraud the non-refund of money and to divert the Rs 5 crore fraud complaint lodged by my friend Gopi against Vemal, Vemal has falsely accused me of cheating and he has also been spreading false and defamatory comments about me in the media. So sir, I humbly ask you to take stern action against actor Vemal and get my money back."
