Embarking on its maiden journey with a steam engine on February 1, 1974, the Godavari Express has maintained its remarkable journey, becoming a symbol of safety, punctuality, and sentiment for its passengers.
Renowned for its efficiency in time management and safety protocols, the Godavari Express holds a special place not only as the most convenient mode of travel to the capital but also as a sentimental journey for those who have traversed its tracks. As time races towards the era of bullet trains, the Godavari Express stands as a testament to the legacy of reliable and heartfelt rail travel between the Telugu states.
In honor of this milestone, railway officials and the public will come together for jubilant celebrations, including cake-cutting ceremonies, at major stations along the Godavari Express route. The grand Golden Jubilee celebration event is scheduled at Vijayawada Railway Station at 11 pm today.
The Godavari Express, currently operating between Visakhapatnam and Secunderabad with train numbers 12727 and 12728, first graced the tracks on February 1, 1974, as Walther – Secunderabad Madya Train No. 7007 and Secunderabad – Walther Madya Train No. 7008. Covering a distance of 710 kilometers (440 miles) and making stops at 18 stations, the train completes its journey in an average time of 12 hours and 25 minutes, cruising at a speed of 57 km per hour (35 miles per hour).
Over these 50 illustrious years, the Godavari Express has provided diverse services to countless passengers, earning its place in the hearts of many as an iconic and reliable mode of transportation.
