Oru Vadakkan Veerakatha which came out in 1989 is considered as the last classic cinema to be made in Malayalam. The film which fetched the first national award for Mammootty.

After 18 years, the classic trio - M.T. Vasudevan Nair, the greatest living writer in Malayalam, Hariharan the master craftsman and Mammootty, one of the finest actors in the country are together again to make another historical Pazhassi Raja.

The shoot of the film on Pazhassi Raja will begin in Palakkad in March. This will be the costliest film ever to be produced in Malayalam with an whooping eight crores budget. The producer of the film will be Gokulam Gopalan of the Gokulam group of Companies.

The final cast of the film is not yet been out. But the news is that Sarath Kumar may appear for the first time in a film in Malayalam. Ilayaraja will score the music, while Venu will wield the camera.
