Geethanjali Malli Vachindi marks a significant return for Anjali as the lead after a prolonged hiatus, serving as the sequel to her previous hit, Geethanjali, and produced by Kona Venkat. Aha has secured the digital rights for the film, and viewers can anticipate its streaming debut on May 8, 2024.
The promotional efforts for the sequel were robust, even including the release of the first look teaser in an unconventional setting a graveyard. Despite the initial buzz, the horror comedy, which hit theaters on April 11, 2024, faced a disappointing fate, ultimately flopping at the box office. Negative word of mouth plagued the film from its inception, dampening its prospects.
Despite the makers' strenuous promotional endeavors, Geethanjali Malli Vachindi failed to resonate with audiences in theaters. Nevertheless, it secured a swift transition to the digital platform, striking a deal with Aha for an early OTT release.
Producer Kona Venkat invested significantly in promotional activities, but unfortunately, the film failed to garner success. Reports suggest that Amazon Prime secured the OTT rights for a considerable sum. The film, featuring Shakalaka Shankar, Satyam Rajesh, Srinivasa Reddy, and others in key roles, was crafted within a budget of Rs 10 crore. Kona Venkat expressed disappointment with the critical reception, asserting that the general audience embraced Geethanjali Malli Vachindi warmly. However, the discrepancy between audience appreciation and box office performance led to its early OTT release.
Directed by Shiva Thurlapati, the horror comedy also served as Anjali's 50th film, alongside co-stars Shakalaka Shankar, Satyam Rajesh, and Srinivasa Reddy. Cinematographer-turned-director Shiva Thurlapati helmed the project, delivering a sequel to Anjali's 2014 film Geethanjali. The narrative follows Sreenu, Athreya, and Arudra as they embark on a film production venture, encountering supernatural forces at Sangeeth Mahal, a haunted mansion provided by Vishnu. Mistaking the ghosts for method actors, the team's filming is disrupted until they confront Vishnu, unraveling hidden motives and escalating tensions, forming the essence of the storyline.
