Long stuck-in-the-cans Anjaane, rumored to be a remake of Hollywood hit 'The Others', may finally see the light of the day this winter. Well, music is certainly not the factor that 'Anjaane's makers - director Harryy W Fernandes and producer Sneh Meta - should rely upon inspite of today's hot'n'happening music director Himesh Reshammiya at the helm. There is nothing that excites a listener in this dated music for 'Anjaane' that has lyrics by Sameer and stars Sanjay Kapoor, Manisha Koirala and Tejaswini Kolhapure in principal roles.
1) Kis Kadar Chahate Hai Tum Ko [Alka Yagnik, Kunal Ganjawala, Jayesh]
Remember 'Aur Is Dil Mein' from Sanjay Dutt starrer 'Imaandaar' that released in late 80s? Well, 'Kis Kadar' is the song that seemingly takes inspiration from this hit love song to begin the album. A solo by Alka Yagnik that follows a typical route of running-around-the-trees and singing-in-the-garden kind of proceedings, the song fails to lift above anything remotely ordinary, hence making one sure that there won't be much to choose from rest of the songs either. Kunal Ganjawala comes for a male solo version of this title song but his lucky charm fails to rub on to the music of Anjaane. Jayesh, who is one of the regulars with Himesh Reshammiya, goes 'Anjaane' at every single moment he finds a gap to pitch in!
2) De Do Re De Do [Sunidhi Chauhan, Jayesh]
After a song from 'Imaandaar', inspiration continues to come from 80s with 'De Do' that has its 'inspiration' from Biddu who scored some disco/pop tracks in that time period. The song is about 'give me your love and take anything in return even if that means my life'. Supposed to be a rocking number from the film makers point of view, it is hardly a song that you want to hear in the current age. Jayesh continues to chip in at every opportune moment while Sunidhi tries to sound all excited and charged while rendering the track but to no avail. Skip it!
3) Ishq Hai Ishq Hai [Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik]
It requires something absolutely drastic for a song to go horribly wrong with Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik behind the mike. Thankfully that's not the case with 'Ishq Hai' that makes something worth hearing in 'Anjaane' at the least. Don't read too much into this as even 'Ishq Hai' is not your potential chartbuster of the year but then in an album like 'Anjaane' where there has not been much choice either ways, a routine (but at least today's) love song like this appears to be God-send. Reshammiya style of music is prevalent for the first time in the album hence making 'Ishq Hai' a passable track at least.
4) Soni Re [K.K., Sapna Mukherjee]
Faint cries of seduction welcome a listener to 'Soni Re' that is the second song in succession bearing typical Reshammiya stamp. If you have liked the composer's work in the past that has been aimed at youngsters, then chances are you won't really hate 'Soni Re' that again has a young feel to it. Good part is that none of the singers go over the top and are in fact quite subtle and simple in their singing. The beats and the singing style are all the same as Reshammiya makes his singers do hence creating a feel of deja-vu. But then one had almost lost hopes from 'Anjaane' in the beginning and hence 'Ishq Hai' and 'Soni Re' coming back to back at least help you continue hearing the album till the end.
5) Mummy Cool Cool [Baby Mohini Roy, Master Sohail]
A children's song marks the end of the album with 'Mummy Cool Cool' that is sung by the kids Mohini Roy and Sohail. Well, it is nothing more than a situational song after all where the kids are playing along with their mother and that's about it. Don't imagine kids making a beeline in front of the music stores to catch hold of the album for just this very song.
