This Republic Day, 2024, Netflix is all set to premiere the much-awaited Bollywood blockbuster "Animal," thus adding to its list of exclusively varied original programming. With earnings such as Rs 915 crores on its global box office, the film with leads Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna has ensured its place amongst the highest on the grossing list of Bollywood releases in 2023.
The movie "Animal" by Sandeep Reddy Vanga has sparked raging discussions on the topic and displays regarding violence in content, views of misogyny, and differences of opinion. Controversial or not, it has marked its way into a niche for cinematic conversations.
Notably, the Netflix version of 'Animal' will run for an extended three hours and 29 minutes, with added scenes that were not featured in the theatrical version, including a pivotal dialogue scene between Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. According to Vanga, this addition aims to enhance the narrative and provide a richer experience for the audience.
This led to legal lawsuits stating financial discrepancies with the producer of the movie, Murad Khetani. The complaint then reached the Delhi High Court, which regulated the case.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga spoke eagerly about the extra minutes in usage of the director's cut as he stressed the importance of capitalizing on the creative decisions made to magnify narration.
With "Animal" set to release on Netflix in a while, it will be interesting to watch how audiences across the globe will react since within the industry itself, the reactions were polarized. The film showcased Anil Kapoor as Balbir and Ranbir Kapoor as his offensive offspring, Ranvijay, along with a story that is unique and rarely seen on Indian celluloid.
Besides "Animal," the other Bollywood releases, which are also fighting it out for eyeballs at the ticket window this weekend, include "Fighter," out on the same date.
