Suriya seems to have got into trouble because of Jyothika-starring Tamil movie 'Ponmagal Vandhaal', which is produced by him on his 2D Entertainment banner. Recently, the 'NGK' actor decided to release the movie directly on Amazon Prime by skipping theatrical release due to COVID-19.
This has angered the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association, which has strongly opposed the move. The association's general secretary Panneerselvam on Saturday released a video message, saying that Suriya's movies will be barred from having a theatrical release from now.
In the video, Panneerselvam says that movies made for theatres should not be released in any other platform and must first hit theatres. He adds that Suriya hasn't responded to their demand for not releasing in any OTT platform and hence future movies from 2D Entertainment as well as movies involving Suriya will not be screened in theatres.
This announcement states that theatre owners have decided to boycott all movies involving Suriya, which in effect means that the release of movies like 'Soorarai Pottru' ('Aakasam Nee Haddu Raa' in Telugu) as well as movies from Dream warrior pictures are in trouble.
