In a tragic incident on Monday morning, Ramya, an Intermediate student, was mowed down by a bus belonging to Sri Chaitanya College at Kukatpally, Hyderabad. The girl died on the spot.

As soon as the incident happened, irate students on the busy road created a ruckus by pelting stones on the bus. They staged a sit-in in the middle of the road and were lathi-charged by the police. The students were angry at the driver, who they alleged was speaking on the phone. The police too have said that the driver's negligence is apparent.

"Both the bus and the victim belong to Sri Chaitanya college. We are going to counsel students on traffic rules and work with the college management to prevent such incidents from recurring in future. The bus driver should have been circumspect, keeping the peak hour traffic in mind," a cop said.
