A junior college in Andhra Pradesh's Rajahmundry city has initiated disciplinary action on two minor students who got married in their classroom.
A video of the boy tying a thread around the girl's neck in an empty classroom went viral on social media. The students are reportedly studying Intermediate second year (equivalent to Class 12) and a friend of theirs has also been reprimanded for shooting the incident on his mobile phone. The three students were issued Transfer Certificates (TC) by the college and were dismissed from the campus after the East Godavari district collector D. Muralidhar Reddy sought a report on the same from the education department. According to a report by a news agency, the Andhra Pradesh police took suo moto cognizance of the video of the students getting married inside their classroom, and informed the Department of Women and Children Development about the same.
"The video came to our notice, but nobody complained about it. Neither the parents of the couple nor the school management reported it. But we have taken the suo moto cognizance of the matter and informed the matter to officials of the Department of Women and Children Development, they will look into the matter," said B Venkateswara Rao, Circle Inspector of Two Town police station, Rajamahendravaram, as quoted by the news agency.
