A month after `Lakshmi' release of super star Shivarajakumar `Andar Bahar' is hitting the silver screen. It is protracted and editing is not sharp in this film. Debutant Phaneesh could have sought better opinion on the length that is two hours and 44 minutes. There are many inconsequential scenes that tax the brains and obviously lead to lengthy film. The case of Phaneesh is such that he has written the answers for optional questions too and writing beyond stipulated marks is his condition. What about the state of affairs of valuators - in this case audiences? Why should they bear so much of brunt? Phaneesh is no doubt an intelligent guy as he has loads of suspense (even after death of female protagonist he bounces with another suspense) but checking the unwanted scenes and delivering lengthy scenes with single line statement is what most required for this film `Andar Bahar'. The film needs a minimum of half an hour editing. What is `Andar and Bahar' is told in many convincing scenes and the two lovely actors Shivarajakumar and Parvathi eat away every time they appear on screen. A good story and good screenplay in portions is redeeming feature from this debutant director for debutant producers. The first half lag very much and the portion of Arundhati Nag and Dr Srinath fulfilling the wish of their son should be chopped off as much as possible. It is better to look at this film `Andar Bahar' at the pre interval last scene. It is interesting at the interval point. A cop is looking for shoot out and Soorya (Shivarajakumar), tormentor Chaswa is looking for the death of Soorya wife Suhasini (Parvathi) and Soorya is looking for the safety of his wife. The investigation of the cop reveals that a politician is behind the killing of tormentor Chaswa wife and he sets Soorya free and thus the clash between Soorya and Chaswa also melt down. That does not mean Soorya is innocent. The shadow of crime is following him. He is pretending as wife of Suhasini because her life is short and in his pretending he falls very much in love. On the other hand Suhasini records all she wants to address Soorya in a video tape and that reaches Soorya after her demise. Soorya is in the belief that there is no need to remember the dear ones after death because of his crime background. After death we have to live in memories and feel that is what old couple Mallamma and Baramanna (Arundhati Nag and Dr Srinath) who are on hire as Soorya parents remind him. So what finally you would be wondering? Soorya losing Suhasini in life because of Sacrum decease and on hearing the golden statement of old couple renounce crime and walks away repenting for his mistakes. What is not acceptable is the philosophy of the director that the relationship of husband and wife starts from a `Lie'. The life after marriage is truthful between spouses it is healthy and worthy. When `Lie' starts from the day one it ends in a horrible life and terrible circumstances follows in married life is what youngster Phaneesh should know. Shivarajakumar is spectacular again in emotional scenes and action plus dance are a treat for his fans. Parvathi has chosen a competent role for her caliber and the immense love she extends shows how a true wife should be. She looks very pleasant in light costumes and in the song Maleyali Minda Male Hani Haage..she is extra beautiful and perfect in her physique. In one of two words she is not perfect in her dubbing. Shashikumar is lively in his short role. Dr Srinath and Arundhati Nag portions not make so easy and comfortable to watch. Jai Ho fame Oscar part singer turning music director in this `Andar Bahar' has been able to give only one memorable tune. Shekar Chandru in his cinematography is splendid. The top angle and chase sequences he has made it look absorbing. Joni Harsha in editing should have consulted on the length and held a group discussion before final copy. Had the same film given to topnotch like Suresh Urs the situation would have been different. Crisp format of narration is what supportable for debut producers Rajanish, Prasad Rao, Ambarish, Bhasker, Avinash and Srinivas in gaining good response in the box office. We feel a real pearl is lost! Score - 6/10
