Devi Sri Prasad cannot be in the best frame of mind. His problems in Tamil and too many commitments have must be distracting. And his rhythm-based music has also started going stale
Yet, Devi Sri Prasad has some kind of formula for Chiranjeevi's films. He has gone by that in Andarivadu. What you get may not be the best music around, but perhaps may satisfy Chiru's fans.
In that sense, Devi Sri Prasad seems to have done his job.
1) Okati Rendu Moodu
Just ignore the over-the-top lyrics. Just forget the usual rhythms from Devi Sri Prasad. Just focus on the energy that Shankar Mahadevan and Grace come up with. Shankar is full of robust ebullience. Grace (from Tamil Nadu) is a Malathi-like singer --- in that range looks limited. But gives her best in that zone. In all, a rambunctious, rollicking roller coaster ride.
2) Padchu Bangaarama
A softie in an otherwise raucous album. But even in this Devi Sri Prasad brings to play his trademark rhythms. Mallikarjun tries his best to sing in SPB vein. Sumangali, on the other hand, does her Chitra bit. Both are successful to a good extent. Yet, the surprise element in either tone or tune is missing.
3) F TV
KK goes for the jugular right from the start. Though the lyrics may be tame, KK and Sunitha Sarathi carry on gamely. The rhythms are again in a sounded-before category. But again, some jazz-like instrumentation saves the number from falling off totally.
4) Ammamma Nee Meesam
Kalpana starts off shrilly and almost sings out of her nose. Udit Narayan follows suit dutifully. The rhythms, tonal experimentation, the interludes nothing is difficult to guess. The singers give their best. But absolute lack of imagination in conception lets down the song. But having said that, the song may be good for Chiru's dance on screen.
5) Andarivadu
Whoever this Andirya is, she is a sure talent to watch. Of course, she lisps in western style even the limited Telugu lyrics in the number. But she sure has a voice that moves smoothly like Benz on an Autobahn. This seeming title song also has a good feel about it. The orchestration, with slight jazz touch about it, is also very easy on the ears and makes to jive and jerk.
6) Kodikorra Chillugaari
The cock crows. The rhythm pads work overtime. And then Jassie Gift and Malathi just dominate this essential mass number. There is no holding back Devi Sri Prasad or his band of musicians. They just belt the hell out of them.
Listen it from the perspective of a Chiru film, you will understand the songs to be serving a purpose.
