Whether or not this event is touted in the States, the US Scripp National Spelling Bee is making quite a headline today in India. 12-year old Ananya Vinay grabbed the title this year, with her unfaltered spelling skill for every word that she heard coming her way; while, Rohan Rajiv missed it by a whisker, misspelling just one word, getting him however to the second position in the global arena.
Fun fact is that this is the consecutive 13th year that Indian kids are rocking out there. The Spelling Bee competition is not only limited to the states of the USA, despite being titled the US Scripp National competition, but is an open arena to kids from all over the world, at their time to shine.
Despite English not being mother tongue to anyone of Indian origin, it is a moment of pride to recount that kids from our home ground are outshining children who are native to the language. We at Indiaglitz are taking a moment to express our excitement over the kids' victory. So here goes to Ananya and Rohan, we are immensely proud of you!
