Captioning #Mersal, Superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday night tweeted: "An important topic addressed... Well done !!! Congratulations team!"

What Rajini means by "an important topic" has seen varied interpretations. Is the 'Kaala' star saying that the lack of quality healthcare is well highlighted by the film? Or is he obliquely referring to the controversial GST and Digital India scenes?

Any which way, Rajini's review of 'Mersal' has come to be seen as an unequivocal support to the film against politicization.

Recently, Kamal Haasan was another big star who supported the film's freedom of expression: "Mersal was certified. Don't re-censor it. Counter-criticise with a logical response. Don't silence critics. India will shine when it speaks," he tweeted.
