Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader TTV Dinakaran had earlier applied for granting cooker as his party election symbol for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the Election Commission of India, but his request was rejected citing that the symbol cannot be given to a party that has not yet been registered.
However, TTV Dinakaran had filed an appeal in the Supreme court against the decision of the Supreme Court. The case hearing had been in progress in the Supreme court for the past few days and today the verdict on this case was pronounced. The Supreme court had given the verdict that it cannot order the Election commission to allot cooker symbol to AMMK.
However, the court has suggested the Election commission to consider granting a common symbol to the party for the bye elections and the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier the commission had denied the symbol requested by AMMK as they were not registered and stated that even if registered now it was impossible. It must be seen if the commission will now reverse their stand following the Supreme court suggestion.
