In a recent study at IIT-Indore three PhD students have done a research on social structure of Hindi film industry from 1913 to 2012 however the students have failed to work out any theory that defines the charisma of the star of Millennium Amitabh Bachchan.
The research which has been recently published in some of the globally recognized science journals has been prepared after six months of meticulous and painstaking efforts by Camellia Sarkar, Anagha Madhusudanan and Sanjiv Kumar Dwivedi.
The study that covers over 9000 films is a scientific study of the success of the Bollywood personalities judging their performance from the country`s most prestigious and longest running Filmfare Awards.
The research studies the rise and downfall of stars beginning from the first superstar of Bollywood Ashok Kumar to recent heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor. The researchers during their study found that every star after ruling at the box office has seen a decline. From Ashok Kumar the reins of stardom was taken over by Dilip Kumar and then to Rajesh Khanna and so on but surprisingly Amiatbh Bachchan is the only actor, who once after becoming a superstar has never had to hand over that position.
Sarika Jalan, associate professor at IIT, candidly confesses, "Amiatbh Bachchan is beyond al theories because the study has not been able to define whether he is a supporting or a lead actor because he defies all predictions and theories. His graph is very different from that of other actors. It's strange but true. Although we have successfully shown how interactions in Bollywood can predict an actor's success, for Amitabh Bachchan it simply cannot be applied. He has not only been an immensely popular actor among the audience, but his quality of work has also been equally appreciated, no matter how many odd projects he has worked on at a time."
