BJP president Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah failed to appear at an Allahabad Court in person in connection with the hearing in a case of ‘defamation’ he had filed against the online news channel The Wire.
The Wire published a controversial article a few weeks back, backing it with evidence, stating that Shah’s business increased to unimaginable proportions before he suddenly wound up his business. Leading opposition parties including the Congress posed many questions to Amit Shah and even demanded his resignation on ‘moral grounds’ as BJP president.
Jay Shah filed a defamation suit against online editor and correspondent of The Wire on 09th October. The case was taken up by the Court yesterday when Jay Shah was conspicuous by his absence. When the Judge asked his counsel the reason for his absence, the counsel said that Shah was busy with his ‘social commitments’. All others involved in the case from The Wire were present.
The Wire’s website editor Siddharth Varadarajan stated sarcastically on his Twitter tweeting it was strange that while the ‘accused’ were present at the Court smiling, the complainant had chosen not to appear at the Court. The next hearing in the case has been postponed to 16th December.
