Among the 33 people who tested positive for the novel coronavirus after boarding an infected Nile cruise in Egypt, 3 of them were found to be US nationals, and one of them was Matt Swider, a Tech editor from New York City. According to Swider, there were 26 other Americans onboard the cruise traveling from Aswan to Luxor.

Along with the other infected individuals, Swider was taken on an Egyptian military aircraft to a hospital while other American tourists have been quarantined in a hotel in the West Bank. The US journalist used his Twitter account to document his journey in Luxor after being infected with the virus. Swider mentioned on his handle that he and 32 other infected persons were taken by the military plane from Luxor to a place outside Alexandria to be quarantined and receive treatment. He posted a number of pictures from the facility as well, claiming that the hospital staff has been extremely friendly.

His most recent update read, "This is the last T-shirt I bought before testing for #CoronaVirus: "I Egypt." Thank you to all of my new Egyptian friends & well-wishers, & everyone at home. I'm getting healthy food to strengthen my immune system against #COVID19. All of my vitals are good. No symptoms."
