American space agency NASA's Voyager 1 is the only spacecraft to be outside our solar system which is currently at a distance of over 13 billion miles from from our planet. Now, after 37 years the mission's scientists have proven that one can still communicate with the craft for atleast the next two or three years.
The scientist were able to achieve this feat by bringing the back up thrusters of the craft into working condition which hasn't been used since 1980. On November 28 however, the team test fired the back up thrusters which worked just as fine as the primary thrusters.
Pertaining to this, the spacecraft will start using its back up thruster from coming January and so it will be able to send data to earth a little longer. Learning from this the team had decided to ensure that Voyager 2' s back ups so it could also send data sans trouble after its journey into the space.
