The COVID 19 pandemic has affected most businesses and professions in the entire world one of the worst-hit in the entertainment industry, particularly the movie and television businesses. It is believed that in the US theaters may be allowed to open after July but it is highly doubtful that people will either have the mood to take a risk to watch a show or even have the money to spend after severe recession.
AMC one of the major multiplex chain in North America has warned that it could close down if the situation persists for long as it does not have the money to sustain itself unless allowed to open immediately. This is a big danger signal for Indian movies as most of them are screened in this chain.
Like in India Hollywood too is looking towards the OTT platform to screen movies and this also has caused severe stress to the exhibitors who are at loggerheads with the producers in this issue. Some experts believe that only 2022 people will be in a position to visit a movie hall and if that turns out to be true many more multiplex chains will shut doors.
Another big theater chain Cinemark has announced that it will reopen its theaters across the US from June 19th and if that is successful only others will follow suit otherwise the COVID 19 pandemic could spell doom for the theater business.
