At a time when his fans are sad that he hasn't found a place in the World Cup despite the exit of Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar, Ambati Rayudu has announced retirement from all formats of international cricket. He made this declaration in a letter to the BCCI. He won't be playing IPL matches even.
Importantly, Rayudu has not given any reason for retirement. The other day, Mayank Agarwal was picked by the selectors after Vijay Shankar had to exit due to an injury. This may be the last straw that broke the camel's back.
There are rumours that he now intends to play for Iceland.
Cricket observer Mikkhail Vaswani has called it a premature end to a career marred by controversies, setbacks and lack of opportunities. Ambati Rayudu s retirement highlights the importance of proper nurturing and handling of talents and behaviours, he added.
