Amazon Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is said to be the most expensive TV or web series ever made. Rings of Power is a spin-off to the world-famous film franchise of the same name, which is based on the novel by JRR Tolkien. The extended trailer of the epic fantasy show was unveiled at the San Diego Comic Con 2022, yesterday.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an ambitious adaptation of JRR Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Rings and its appendices. The series is set four thousand years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Unlike the film series, the show will feature more than one ring. The SDCC trailer gives a magnified image of the Second Age of Middle-earth on which the show is based.

The three-minute-long clip is nothing short of a visual extravaganza. The video opens with a mountain of soldiers' helmets who lost their lives in the battle with a voice-over, "We thought the war, at last, was ended." The voice continues that people thought the days of peace had begun but Galadriel foresees a great war breaking out as humanity is supposed to take on evil when the Dark Lord returns. The trailer teases the return of Sauron, the biggest villain of middle earth and the legend who forged the rings.

It seems that the internal conflict which lies between humankind and when they unite to battle against the Dark Lord and his adherents forms the premise of the upcoming web series. The first season comprises eight episodes and the show is slated to have five long seasons. Jointly bankrolled by Amazon Studios with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video from September 2.
