The Modi government has issued notices to Amazon and Flipkart over sellers on the platforms of the e-commerce giants allegedly not mentioning the country of origin of products. It's known that, as per a rule brought out by the Centre a few months ago, e-commerce platforms have to mention the country of origin of products without fail. The rule was conceived in the wake of China antagonizing India by triggering unprecedented border clashes.
Amazon and Flipkart have been asked to submit an explanation within 15 days. In case they fail to do so, the e-commerce giants will be hauled up legally.
The move comes ahead of the festive season. Dasara and Diwali are going to see huge online sales. The government expects Amazon and Flipkart's sellers to be transparent about where their products have originated. Those customers who don't' like to buy Chinese products will tailor their purchasing choices accordingly.
