“It took time for people to understand that television and film industries can co-exist without facing competition from each other. Gone are the days when television was considered as a threat by film industry,” said Kamal Haasan.

He was speaking at the launch of ‘Abirami’, a television serial, in Chennai on Monday. Produced by Abirami Mega Mall for Kalaignar TV, the mega serial has Gouthami playing the lead role.

“Both (television and film industry) share a brotherly relationship. Some actors perform in films and serials with ease, while some bid adieu to movies to act in television. But competition never existed between us,” he said.

According to Gouthami, the serial would be different from the rest as it is backed by a strong storyline. “Many veterans are part of the team I am sure ‘Abirami’ would have a positive impact on people,” she said. The serial also has Kalpana in a pivotal role.
