Kerala will witness a revolutionary change in film viewing by the creation of a digital networks of cinema halls, centrally controlled and operated. Emil and Eric -- an entertainment software company is now in the forefront of converting cinema halls into digitally equipped centres, capable of receiving signals from a central single satellite.

This network at the first phase will include 80 theaters which consist of A,B and C class theatres stretched all over Kerala. A digitally produced or digitally converted movie can be distributed to theatres via satellite and this movie once received and stored by a computer server can project it over screen through a digital projector for each screening of the movie .

"Moonnamathoraal" by V.K.Prakash, produced by Benzy Martin under the banner of Fairy Queen production will be the first film to get released over 80 theatres across Kerala, through this network. As the film is in its last phase of release, debates are going on in the film circuits about the quality of digital projections and its impact on contemporary film making. As many finds it as an effective way to cut costs, many believe it may derate the value of film production just into the level of a Television soaps.
