'Holiday' has crossed the 100 crore mark, hence turning out to be another century grosser of the year after 'Jai Ho' and '2 States'. By the look of things, the Akshay Kumar starrer is all set to be the highest collecting film for the year so far, what with a very good second week indicating positive trending for the A.R. Murugadoss affair.
Released early this year, 'Jai Ho' went on to nett 116 crore with the 100 crore mark being achieved in 10 days flat. Later '2 States' too managed around 105 crore though it took the film 24 days to hit the century. Now with 'Holiday' set for a 100 crore run in 15 days flat, it is all set to cross '2 States' in the third weekend itself and then expect a good run in days to come.
Of course it faces challenge from Sajid Khan's 'Humshakals' with Saif Ali Khan and Riteish Deshmukh which is seeing the biggest and the widest release of 2014. All of that means that the film would be occupying majority of multiplex screens as well as a large count of single screens across the country. However, with 'Holiday' finding good patronage amongst the audience due to positive word of mouth, it is expected that exhibitors would continue to host decent screenings at good show timings, hence enabling the Vipul Shah & Reliance production to hold on to its winning run as well.
With a 41 crore weekend, 69 crore first week and over 30 crore second week, the going has been good for 'Holiday'. Even with a 50% fall from here, 15 crore more is a given for 'Holiday'. No wonder, trade is already betting on 116 crore of 'Jai Ho' being eclipsed by the Akshay Kumar starrer in an overall lifetime run.
Meanwhile, the film should also turn out to be Akshay Kumar's second highest grosser ever after 'Housefull 2' (115 crore), though his record of 'Rowdy Rathore' (133 crore) would remain intact till he arrives with 'Its Entertainment', 'Gabbar' and 'Baby'.
