Apart from being a great actor, Akshay Kumar is also a fitness enthusiast. He leads a very healthy and balanced life with a fixed routine and keeps himself fit and agile even in his 50s. However, had to abandon his diet and workout plans for his film 'Raksha Bandhan'. The actor had to look a bit overweight to look accurate for the part so he decided to put on some weight.
This was tough since he has shed six kgs for the role of a cop in Rohit Shetty's 'Sooryavanshi'. Akshay said, “I quite enjoy the process of losing or gaining weight for a character because I am able to do it in a healthy way. I have gained 5 kg in a totally natural process. And it also allowed me the rare indulgence of eating meri maa ke haath ka halwa. What a blessing!”
Gaining or sheding weight for a film is not a new concept. Robert De Niro popularised is with the film 'Raging Bull' and then Christian Bale took it further. In Bollywood, Aamir often undergoes massive transformations for his parts.
