Back in 2021, Akshay Kumar had announced that he is going to play 1971 Indo Pak war hero Maj Gen Ian Cardozo in a film titled 'Gorkha'. The actor had even released a couple posters of himself in the military uniform sporting a moustache and wielding a khukri. However, the latest buzz suggests that Akshay has distanced himself from the project.
For the unversed, Ian Cardozo, who was also called Kartoos Saab by his troops, lost his leg in 1971 when he stepped on a landmine. It is said that he amputated his own leg after being gravely injured. However, the valiant officer continued to serve in the army and commanded a battalion till his retirement as a Major General.
Talking about why Akshay has walked away from the project, a source told Hindustan Times, "Some veterans from the unit that Major General Cardozo was attached with during the war reached out, putting major question marks on his version of the events. Akshay has utmost respect for the armed forces and does not want to associate with a story that may have a shadow of doubt."
On the other hand, director Anand L Rai has stated that the film has been postponed due to some technical issues. He told The Indian Express, "There are so many technical things that we need to take care of before we do the film. We also need to work on the factual details of the film. So, it will need the time it deserves. We can’t rush it. If we are doing the film then Akshay will be a part of the film. If not, we’ll work on something else.”
