Bollywood has been in a huge slump this year. Changed preferences of audience, subpar content and frequent boycott trends have been the reason behind failure of several films and if there's one actor who has been affected more than anyone because of all this, it's Akshay Kumar. He has been part of five unsuccessful films this year and people have questioned his insanely high fees and severe lack of commitment to his roles.
In a recent media interaction, Akshay was asked to address the consecutive failure of his films. He told Deadline, "I think we have to try much harder than we used to do earlier, we have to try harder to get them out.” The actor further added, “It’s our fault. We need to know what they want and stop blaming [the audience] for everything because a lot of people have blamed the [audiences] and are saying they don’t want to come out, but I think it’s our turn to please them and bring them out.”
Talking about the rise of OTT platforms in India, Akshay said, “We are 1.5 billion people there and still Netflix, Amazon, Disney, ZEE5, all of these digital platforms, they have only tapped no more than about 10 to 12 percent of the market…The market in India is huge."
