Akshay Kumar's character in '2.0' has captivated the audience with its mythical love for birds. The Bollywood actor plays an ornithologist (a person who studies birds) and it's as if he was born to save the birds from electromagnetic emissions from cell phone towers.
If you thought there is no legendary ornithologist who might have inspired Shankar and his writers to conceive Akshay's character in the movie the way they did, you have to know about Salim Ali.
Born in 1896, he is a legend in the field of ornithology and natural history. A recipient of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, Salim Ali conducted original systematic bird surveys in several princely states (like Hyderabad) during the British Era.
"My love for birds is essentially aesthetic and scientific, and in some cases may even be pragmatic. It's not of the sentimental variety," Salim Ali once said. In '2.0', Pakshi Raj (Akshay) loves birds for similar reasons and also because he stays connected to them (since he was literally saved by a bird).
The film should have mentioned Salim Ali's name to introduce him to the country's youngsters. It would have been fitting.
